Having a good skincare regimen is extremely important. Not only will it keep your skin bright and dewy, but it will also help keep your skin looking young and fresh. With all of the environmental issues that affect our skin everyday, it is essential to start a good skincare routine at a young age. It doesn’t matter how expensive the items are that you use, just as long as you have a routine. In addition, I consistently go to see an esthetician every 6-8 weeks to help keep my skin looking as youthful as possible! I wanted to share with you my morning skincare routine. Without fail, I make sure to do this every morning to start my day off right!
Naturally you will start your regimen with a cleanser. I have suffered from acne for years and after trying many, many face washes, I have settled on a Benzoyl Peroxide wash (5%) that I get from my dermatologist. I do not like to take medicine and this has been my first line of defense for a few years now. This wash helps to prevent breakouts and control oil. For some of you, this would be too harsh for your skin. I also suggest speaking to a dermatologist or a skincare professional when you are trying to find the right formula for any skincare issues you might have. However, for the lucky ones out there, just make sure that you have a cleanser that works for your skin type. Also, ask for samples (when possible) to give yourself an opportunity to try before you buy!
Again, this toner is specific to my needs. To help with my acne and oily skin these Salicylic Acid pads have been a lifesaver! In combination with the Benzoyl Peroxide wash, I have been able to stay acne free for quite sometime. A toner is a wonderful addition to any routine because it will help to remove oil and dirt while smoothing the skins surface.
Serums are not a one size fits all. I like to use a Vitamin C serum to help even out my skin tone while brightening the skin at the same time. To be honest, I have tried many different serums and loved many! The key is to decide what your goal with your skin is at this time. For me, my goals change as I get older. Now that my acne is under control, I would like to keep a youthful, dewy appearance while fighting wrinkles. I want to do everything I can right now to prevent having to do any injections or surgery at a later date. Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing wrong with a little cosmetic surgery. However, if I can take the time to prevent that now then why wouldn’t I?
Another vital part to help slow the aging process! Not only will a good eye cream help to soften and prevent wrinkles, it will also help to hydrate your under eye (one of the most sensitive and delicate places on your face) but adding that extra moisture will help your makeup apply without creasing! A total bonus! This too is not a one size fits all product! I have tried one of the most expensive, coveted eye creams and it made my extremely eyes puffy. I was so happy that I asked for a sample before making the plunge and spending oodles of money on a cream that did not work for me at all!
For the morning, I am a big fan of a light moisturizer that won’t make my skin look greasy but at the same time adds the necessary hydration that I need. I fell in love with my moisturizer a few years ago and have not found another that works as well for me.
Last but certainly not least is sunscreen. I am sure I don’t need to explain why this is so important but not only will a good sunscreen help prevent skin cancer but it will also protect you against wrinkles.
I am sure there are many lotions and potions that are also available that I do not currently use in my routine. So a good rule of thumb to follow when applying your serums and creams is to start with the thinnest to thickest consistency. Also, my esthetician also taught me to apply my eye cream before the moisturizer so it absorbs better into your skin. One last tip is to also apply one step at a time. Give each step a few minutes to absorb before applying the next.
